The main focus of the course is on comparing originals and Czech translations of the most influential works of English and American literature for children and young adults (Defoe, Kingsley, Carroll, Grahame, Salinger and others), defining the specifics of translation for children, and considering their implications for tranlsation in general. The work in the course includes practical translating and independent work in translation criticism, literary history and translation bibliography. The final papers written by students contribute to a public page on the topic of children's literature.
Due to the focus on Czech translations, the course is not suitable for students who are not fluent in Czech or Slovak.
