This course covers the development of the various strains of American independent cinema from the 1960s to the 1990s. The issues raised by the filmmakers are viewed in a general cultural and political context. The focus on this alternative form artistic expression enables the paticipants to cast a sideways look at the US cinematic mainstream, assess its methods and become aware of its underlying values and ideologies.
