Cílem kurzu / The aim of the course

je prohloubit prostřednictvím seminárních diskusí a samostatné práce praktický vhled studentů do problematiky teorie a metodologie sociálněvědného výzkumu. Akcentovány jsou otázky (1) povahy objektivity ve výzkumu a možnosti jejího zajištění v praxi výzkumu, (2) reflexivity výzkumné praxe a způsobů její zahrnutí do metodologických postupů, (3) identity výzkumníka v terénu a jeho situovanosti ve vztahu k předmětu výzkumu, (4) praktických i formálních etických problémů výzkumné práce a jejich vztahu k teorii a metodologii, (5) vhodného designu výzkumu ve vztahu ke konkrétním výzkumných problémům a (6) korektním způsobům analýzy empirických dat.

Průběh a výstupy / Course structure and outcomes

Kurz probíhá formou diskusních seminářů, jejichž témata určuje jednak zadaná četba, jednak prezentace studentů zaměřené na řešení relevantních problémů v jejich disertačních projektech. Hlavním výstupem kurzu je první pracovní verze kapitoly disertace, v níž jsou řešené otázky metodologie řešeného disertačního výzkumu.

Po absolvování kurzu jsou studenti schopni

• důsledně a prakticky promýšlet problémy objektivity výzkumu;
• vestavět reflexivitu jako soubor postupů a návyků do své výzkumné praxe;
• vyhovět formálním etickým nárokům na sociálněvědný výzkum;
• poctivě se snažit zohledňovat zájmy a potenciální rizika svých informátorů ve své výzkumné praxi;
• rozvrhovat výkumný problém pragmaticky s ohledem na teoretické cíle výzkumu;
• dbát, aby se v procesu analýzy vyvarovali aspoň těm nejelementárnějším chybám.

The course takes the form of discussion seminars, the topics of which are determined by assigned reading and student presentations focused on solving relevant problems in their dissertation projects. The main outcome of the course is the first working version of a dissertation chapter addressing issues of methodology in the dissertation research.

After completing the course, students will be able to

• think through issues of research objectivity in a consistent and practical manner;
• incorporate reflexivity as a set of procedures and habits into their research practice;
• comply with the formal ethical requirements for social science research;
• make an honest effort to take into account the interests and potential risks of their informants in their research practice;
• plan their research problem pragmatically with regard to the theoretical goals of the research;
• ensure that they avoid at least the most basic mistakes in the analysis process.
